Buying a Jackpot Beagle or Harrier
We sell Beagles and Harriers in three ways: as Pet/Companions (who will be spayed or neutered and will not be shown),  as Show, and occasionally as a combination of the two. Show/Pets are the buyer's companion but remain available for the breeding and showing programs at Jackpot (the pup's breeder). We do not sell puppies for home breeding purposes.

Our adoption process includes an interview to ensure you and the Beagle are suited. There are many breeds, and Beagles are not for everyone. Be sure to read up on Beagle puppies and about the history of the breed.

Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can my puppy come home with me?
Your puppy can come home with you at no fewer than nine (9) weeks of age. We encourage you to visit us and play with your puppy from as young as four weeks, but we will not send a puppy home until they have had a chance to grow, to adjust to life away from mum,  and to build up immunities. We provide their first two (2) immunization shots and an AVID microchip.

What is your spay/neuter policy?
A
t the time of purchase you sign an AKC limited spay/neuter agreement, which means that unless you specifically purchase your puppy for the purpose of showing, you will have your vet perform the procedure as soon as the puppy is of age.
Will my new puppy require shots and vet appointments immediately?
Your puppy won't need the third set of shots for three to four weeks after they come home with you - and it's always a good idea to acquaint your new puppy with your family vet. We send your puppy home with two sets of shots and an AVID microchip implant that vet or animal shelters can use to immediately identify your pet.
How and when are home visits scheduled?
Home visits are scheduled on weekends and holidays, according to our work and show schedules. Call us to ask about a specific weekend (and we'll ask you to confirm again the Friday before you come) to set a time and to get directions to our home.

Jackpot pet Beagle puppies sell for $850, Harriers sell for $1000. They both go to homes no earlier than nine (9) weeks of age. We often have puppies older than that available, because it can take us several months to decide whether a puppy has the right conformation and temperament to show.

All puppies will come to you with two (2) sets of vaccination shots and are permanently identified with a universal AVID™ microchip. Pets are sold on an AKC limited registration and you are expected to spay or neuter your puppy at six (6) months old.

We invite you to visit our kennels near Atlanta, Georgia to acquaint yourself with the puppies and meet their family. By appointment (
kevin@jackpotbgl.com or call 770-513-7959), we have family visits when you can come out, ask questions, and play with them.

Puppy Supplies
Before deciding to become a puppy's parent, consider the breed and your own lifestyle. Check our link about Purchasing a Puppy for more useful links.

Once you're sure you have the right puppy, you'll need supplies for your new buddy.

  • Crate (traveling, sleeping, & a safe "time out" place)
  • Book: "How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With"
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1577790766/102-9651880-8584943?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance
  • Fluffy "lambskin." Sold at dog shows, these polyester "fluffies" are excellent crate pads - easily washed and bleached as necessary, they're resilient, comfortable, and if your puppy does have an accident, they partially isolate the dog from the wet spot and dry quickly.
  • Metal food dish, metal or ceramic water dish (easily sanitized, indestructible)
  • Toys: "Kong", nylabones, bleached bones (available at dog shows)
  • Quality food: Eukanuba, IAMS, Pro Plan, Science Diet
  • Cleaning fluid (Clorox Clean-Up works!) & paper towels
  • Bags to dispose of waste
  • Walking lead (a choke can be used with instruction at a puppy class after the puppy is at least a year old) leash, collar, tags
  • Wash & protection shampoo*
  • Biospot, heartworm pills

*We use Freshpet (available at dog shows), but gentle dog shampoo from PetSmart is fine. Beagles and Harriers are easy care- dirt comes out in 3-5 minutes.  Rub your puppy down with a soft towel, and after a half-hour in a crate, you've got a fresh puppy! You only need to wash about once a month or when your puppy's rolled in something and smells.  Too-frequent shampoos cause skin irritation & dandruff.

We invite you to visit our kennels near Atlanta, Georgia to acquaint yourself with the puppies and meet their family. By appointment (kevin@jackpotbgl.com or call 770-513-7959), we have family visits when you can come out, ask questions, and play with the beagles in the yard.
